SUBJECT: Update from Dennis Brown & JD Diskon re BKCA7 ride to WCC Boise.

Fellow attendees riding to the West Coast Conference Convention from the Starbucks/Chevron Station at 4490 Central Way, Fairfield, Saturday July 20th; an update is in order. Because of the heat we'll probably encounter in Redding, let's move the departure time ahead to 0800 hrs. Tina Diskon will have a small Ice chest in the chase vehicle stocked with Gatorade, please dress accordingly and keep hydrated. Remember, coffee, iced tea, and caffeinated drinks don't qualify.

Dennis and I would like to have an idea of who plans to do this ride so that we don’t leave anyone behind at the Fairfield Starbucks. Pls email your intentions to jd@blueknights.org reasonably soon....

Our rules of the road are tested and simple, designed for safety, and to ensure a pleasant experience:
1) We will travel at the speed limit, or where possible, 5 mph over.
2) We'll stay in the right hand lane except to pass.
3) Ride in a staggered formation with at least a 3 second interval between bikes.
4) Keep your headlights on low beam unless you're at the front.
5) Scan your mirrors frequently.
6) Use your turn signals to forewarn riders to the rear of a lane change and follow the rider to your front. The last bike in formation or the chase vehicle should not block the lane.
7) When passing slower vehicles, it does not have to be a formation pass, do so quickly (particularly if they are 18 wheelers!), allow adequate room before pulling back into the slow lane and do not slow down directly in front of the vehcile you just passed.
8) If you have a bike with loud pipes, ride at the rear of the formation.
9) If you need to pull off the road for gas or any other reason, signal riders to your rear in advance by putting your thumb to your mouth, then pointing to your chest and carefully exit.

We will ride to the Black Bear Diner, 2605 Hilltop Dr., Redding non-stop, get gas at the station next door, then eat. Input that address into your GPS in case we get separated.
After lunch, sections of CA-299 will be 55 mph and be cognizant of ever-present four legged critters, and OSP in Oregon. At Alturas, we'll top off our tanks then head to our first night's lodging: Best Western Skyline Motel, 414 North G St., Lakeview, Or. Please input that address too.
Before we leave for Boise/Garden City Sunday morning, we'll have a riders meeting to discuss that portion of the trip. The host hotel is: Doubletree by Hilton, 2900 W. Chinden Bl., Garden City, Id. 208 343 1871.
On the road, I can be reached @ 510 387 4464 or JD @ 510 541 0929. For those of you with a CB radio, JD will be on Channel 1. The chase car will have a handheld CB monitoring Chan 1.

Ride safe and as always, Ride With Pride:
