Dear Fellow Knights,
The California Peace Officers’ Memorial is coming up in May. Let’s not miss this year, especially since the four OPD officers will be honored. So here’s a heads-up to mark your calendars, and get things ready.
Meet at the Vallejo Lyons on Friday, May 7th, 2010. Time 0800 for the rider brief, 0815 departure. Route will be e/b I-80 to West Sacramento, then over the Tower Bridge to the Capital.
Coffee and breakfast at the Lyon’s on your own if you wish. But be aware that our 0815 departure time should get us to Sacramento rather early. I’d like to beat the procession of marked units to the Capital, and make sure we have plenty of time to find parking. There are a few coffee shops, and Starbucks with in a few blocks of the Capital Mall to kill the extra time once we are in Sacramento.
I normally like to keep our rides and events casual – but this is a formal and somber event, we should dress and look the part. So please prepare the following for the uniform of the day:
Black boots, polished. Black riding pants or black jeans – new, not faded. White dress shirt with black tie (either bow or straight is cool). BK vest, if you wear a badge on your vest, have a strip of black ribbon across the face. Black jacket (usually cool mornings, warming up later in the day that time of year). Black CA 7 baseball cap.
Also money, including change for any parking meters that may need to be fed, and small bills for splitting the bill at lunch later on. The lunch ride will follow; location will probably be along SR 160 in the delta someplace.
