                                                           SPUD RUN 2008

Hello boys and girls. Are we ready for our Chapter’s 16th annual participation in the Spud Run? If you’re like me, the days leading up to the  Memorial Day weekend means our pilgrimage to Boise, Idaho is about to begin and all the whore stories and levity, be it true or not, is thrown in for good measure. We’ll lie, cheat, kick tires, imbibe of cocktails and commiserate with fellow Knights throughout the Conference, all in the name of camaraderie. And, some of it will be true!

I will leave from Starbucks in the Rockridge Shopping Center, 51st and Broadway, Oakland at 0715 Thursday, 22May08 and head to the Union 76 Station at Cordelia Junction off IS 80. At 0815 we’ll head east on IS 80 to the Nyack exit Shell Station for coffee and fuel and then on to Fernley, Nv. for our usual lunch and fuel stop at the Silverado Casino. Bring your appetite because they don’t scrimp on the portions that will tide us over until we arrive in Winnemucca around 1530hrs for Thursday Knight’s lodging and levity at the Santa Fe Inn, 1629 W. Winnemucca Blvd. Phone 775 623 1119 for one of the 20 rooms I have reserved for Blue Knights @ $65.00 to $75.00 + tax with a 7 day cancellation clause.

Friday morning, 23May08 we’ll depart for Boise at 0800. Tradition dictates we stop for breakfast at the Say When Casino about an hour later on US 95 at the Oregon border hamlet of McDermitt. After stuffing ourselves, we’re off on US 95 through Oregon into Idaho, and SR 55, IS 84 and IS 184 to Boise. The Curtis Road exit will deliver us to our host hotel, the Rodeway Inn, 1115 N. Curtis Rd., Boise, 83706. Call them at 1 800 727 5002 to check on your reservations for Friday and Saturday nights, 23 & 24May08, if made them last year upon departure. If you’re new to our annual trek, all 98 rooms have been reserved as of this writing in early November, however management assures me some cancellations will occur, so call and put your name on the standby list. Rates are $59.95 per night, there is a good bar and restaurant on site and a great pool and spa for your relaxation.

Sunday, 25May08 at 0800 we will say our goodbyes and head back to Fernley, Nevada via reverse route to the Best Western Inn, 1405 E. Newlands Dr. 775 575 6776. I’ve reserved 10 rooms for the Blue Knights at $85.00 each with a 7 day cancellation clause. The stop at Fernley allows us to have one last “attitude adjustment hour”, recap the events of the weekend and rest up for Monday’s 0700 ride to the Foresthill, Auburn exit and the home of the world’s best omelets, Sweet Peas.

Make your reservations now and as always, remember to prepare for weather extremes. With luck, maybe our 2008 Spud Run will be again blessed with beautiful, crystal clear and warm weather, just like last year.

Contact me at dbrownbkca7@sbcglobal.net if you have any questions or are planning on joining in on the festivities. It’s a fun time and an experience to behold.
