President
The duties of the Chapter President are defined in Article VI, Section 6.02
of the By-Laws of The Blue Knights' International Motorcycle Club, Inc.
Only Regular members in-good-standing, may hold the position of Chapter
President. The Chapter President is the General Executive Head of the Chapter.
He (or his proxy) presides at all chapter business meetings or general
membership meetings as well as representing our chapter at Conference and
International Executive and Board of Governor's meetings. He is considered an Ex
Officio member of all chapter committees, except a nominating committee, if one
is formed. He is a co-signer with the Treasurer on all chapter accounts and
other legal documents given on behalf of the chapter. He has the power to call
meetings and makes an annual report to the chapter members at least once a year.
In addition to those duties and responsibilities outlined in the International
By-Laws, our Chapter President has the following additional duties and
responsibilities based upon tradition and past practices: The Chapter President
should attempt to promote a "family atmosphere" within the Chapter. He must
ensure the annual ride calendar is completed and published in a timely manner.
He should lead Chapter rides that he is present at. He must ensure that all
members are kept abreast of chapter events and rides, personally or through the
Chapter Secretary via a mailed newsletter, Internet web page and/or by e-mail.
He must ensure the chapter funds are collected diligently, invested wisely and
expended in a manner that in the best interest of the general membership while
meeting the debts and obligations of the Chapter in a reasonable and prudent
manner.
The Chapter President should appoint the allowed number of Chapter Directors (as
prescribed by International) and announce/establish whether those Directors will
be voting members of the Executive Board. The Chapter President may appoint
Chapter Director(s) to assist him with developing the annual ride calendar and
assist by coordinating and leading chapter rides, they may also be appointed to
be voting members of the Chapter Executive Board, at the discretion of the
President. The Chapter President may appoint a Chapter Webmaster to assist the
Chapter Secretary by maintaining an Internet web page or web site for the
benefit of the Chapter members and for the purpose of recruiting. He may appoint
a Chapter Newsletter Editor to assist the Chapter Secretary by publishing and
distributing a Chapter Newsletter. He may appoint a Chapter Recruiting Director
to assist the Vice President with recruiting and retention. He may appoint a
Fundraising Director to assist the Chapter Treasurer with charity and
fundraising efforts, including 50/50 drawings and other methods of raising
additional funds to be expended for charitable and benevolent purposes or the
chapter treasury. He may appoint a Chapter Historian to assist the Chapter
Secretary with maintaining records, documentation, photos and a historical
record of the Chapter and its members, past and present. He may appoint a
Chapter Quartermaster to assist the Chapter Treasurer with Chapter Sales duties.
These specific responsibilities, and others as necessary, may be delegated to
other Executive board members or appointed members-in-good-standing, but the
ultimate responsibility for the completion of these tasks falls upon the Chapter
President.
