Al the Wop’s
Locke Ride
August 27, 2015
Once again, It is the time
for our annual pilgrimage to the Delta, Al the Wop’s, and one of
the finest (well, most unique) steak sandwiches in Northern
California. Al the Wop’s defies description and simply needs to
be experienced to be understood.
“Al the Wop’s,” Politically
Incorrect, you say? Yes it is. They tried to rename it “Al’s
Place” in the 80’s, but the name never took. They’ve been
serving up good grub and drink since 1915!
As we have done in years
past, we will meet in the South East corner of the Sun Valley
Sears Parking lot in Concord, just off of Willow Pass Rd, west
of I-680. The festivities begin around 0930 to meet, greet, and
commence the general kicking of tires.
We’ll get underway around
10:00 for our next meeting & pick up point, the Hillcrest Shell
gas station at 2701 Hillcrest in Antioch. Here we’ll join up
with our east county contingent. After the requisite
socializing, we’ll top off our tanks, and get ready for Locke.
We’ll get underway for Locke
around 11:00 and should arrive at Al the Wop’s at about 11:45
for lunch.
As we arrive at Locke, turn
right (down the short hill) and right again onto Main Street.
Don’t be put off by the appearance of the buildings all leaning
together and supporting each other. It is not your imagination,
they are! Just as they have for over 90 years.
This is an event that in
the past has drawn Blue Knights from all over Northern
California and we hope to see many return again this year.
When we are done with lunch,
you have the rest of the afternoon to enjoy some of the finest,
scenic roads in California.
Please feel free to drop me
a line with any questions or suggestions for this or any chapter
ride.
